A local solution for our unique needs

Intelematics has been developing localised data driven solutions for the transport industry for two decades. With the Internet of Things providing greater vehicle connectivity, Intelematics has developed potentially life-saving connected vehicle technology that automatically connects a vehicle and its occupants with help in the event of an incident.

How it works

In the event of an incident, critical data is transmitted from the vehicle to the Intelematics connected vehicle platform and communicated to first responders via a call centre agent.

Critical information can be communicated to first responders even when vehicle occupants are unresponsive.

An intuitive web-based interface provides information to call centre agents who support the emergency response.

Within eight seconds or less, our trained eCall agents can have a range of data points on hand and be speaking with the vehicle occupant to triage the call and engage emergency services as required.

Trusted by police and law enforcement

Intelematics has built strong, trusted relationships with emergency services across Australia and New Zealand working closely with first responders, key emergency stakeholders and national emergency services such as Triple Zero (000), Triple One (111).

Our specially trained eCall operators filter false alarms and escalate only genuine emergencies, helping emergency services respond faster, more informed and better equipped when lives may be at risk.

Emergency Services

Intelematics' works hand-in-hand with Triple Zero (000) and Triple One (111) operators across Australia and New Zealand to support faster, better-informed emergency response. Every alert is accompanied by enriched car data such as GPS location, direction of travel, speed at impact, seatbelt engagement and vehicle propulsion type, giving call-takers and first responders the situational awareness they need before arriving on scene.

Our trained eCall operators triage every call, ensuring only genuine emergencies are escalated and that the right resources are dispatched the first time, reducing false alarms and getting help to the people who need it, faster.

Frequently asked questions

  • eCall is a system that enables a vehicle to automatically place a call for help to first responders if involved in a crash, even if the occupants are trapped or unconscious.
  • Along with a voice call to the vehicle and a detailed list of important vehicle data like precise location, the number of airbags deployed, and the number of occupants, it is made available to trained call centre agents to assist in the fastest and most appropriate response.
  • eCall can be triggered by an Automated Collision Notification (ACN) or manually via an in-vehicle SOS Emergency button.
  • Using geolocation technology and sensors within the car, call centre agents can access critical information, including speed and direction of travel.

  • ACN is a vehicle safety feature that automatically detects when the car has been involved in a crash and automatically places an outbound call and sends an information file containing critical details and connects to a trained emergency triage call centre.
  • The car’s built-in sensors (known as telematics) will only be triggered in the case of an event, for example, the deployment of airbags, rollover or sudden braking at high speed.
  • The trained call centre agent can then use this information to assess the urgency of your incident and get emergency services to your precise location promptly.

  • The SOS Emergency button is either a soft or hard in the vehicle that can be manually pressed if emergency assistance is required.
  • Like an ACN, pushing the SOS Emergency button will trigger the vehicle to automatically place an outbound call and send a car information file to a trained emergency call centre agent, who can see your location and get emergency services to you if required.

Yes. It can be triggered manually by pushing the SOS button. A witness or car passenger can communicate with emergency services via the vehicle.

eCall can help save lives and reduce the severity of injuries by reducing the time emergency services take to respond to a crash. As eCall is triggered automatically from the vehicle, even if the occupants are unconscious or unable to engage emergency services themselves, with the precise GPS location available from the vehicle, a trained agent can ensure emergency services get to your location.

Quicker emergency response

eCall can automatically alert emergency services in the event of a crash, which can be crucial in a lifesaving situation. It also helps coordinate the appropriate emergency first responders, from personnel, equipment, and medical facilities.

Improved emergency services location

eCall uses precise GPS location technology to provide accurate information about the location of a crash, which helps emergency services accurately reach the destination faster.

Improved accident care

eCall can collect enhanced information about the car, for example, impact zones, the severity of impact, the number of seat belts deployed, vehicle speed, and altitude before the incident, assisting first responders in dispatching appropriate emergency assistance quicker.

Availability for all road users

A witness, a car passenger, a good Samaritan can activate the manual SOS button for emergency assistance via the vehicle.

Yes. The eCall solution meets ANCAP specifications and requirements for a third-party service provider solution to ensure fast and reliable emergency response.

As part of ANCAP compliance, eCall services at a minimum, will be free for six (6) years after vehicle purchase. Each car manufacturer may differ in how long these services remain complimentary beyond this requirement, the best way to find out is to contact your car manufacturer directly.

eCall is not a black box. eCall is an automated emergency calling system.

It does not record constantly the position of the vehicle. eCall only records and transmits minimum vehicle data (upon trigger or activation) that is important for emergency services when assessing an accident situation. The vehicle data could be to determine the position, vehicle damage or impact and direction of the vehicle.

eCall cannot be used to monitor motorist's moves. The SIM-card used to transmit the eCall data is dormant, i.e. it is only activated in case the vehicle has a serious crash (e.g. the airbag is activated). eCall is about saving lives, not recording journeys.

No, it is vehicle safety feature regardless of the driver or occupants.

No, Intelematics does not support an eCall retrofitted solution.
