Award-winning car tracking technology by Intelematics
A life-saving technology platform designed in Australia, which automatically connects a vehicle with first responders in the event of an accident, has been awarded gold in two categories at the prestigious Australian Good Design Awards.
Known as the Asure platform, the technology was developed in Melbourne by engineers at Intelematics.
Launched in 2020, it enables a vehicle to automatically call for help in the event of an accident, even if occupants are trapped or unconscious. Using geolocation and in-car sensors, trained staff can access vehicle location, speed and direction of travel, and the number of seat belts engaged in a collision
Asure, which is used by Toyota, has been awarded the top prize in the categories of Product Design Commercial and Industrial, and Digital Design Interface. Asure was also recognised as a Good Design Award Winner in the Service Design Commercial Services category.
Established in 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards has recognised many Australian and international innovations, including the Cochlear implant, Qantas’ A380 economy class seat and the Tesla Model S.
The design of the ASURE platform was led by RACV Head of Service and Product Design, Luke Allen. At the heart of the system are three core functions – emergency call (eCall), breakdown assistance (bCall) and stolen vehicle tracking (SVT). If activated, the system automatically dials a specialised contact centre where trained agents connect vehicle occupants to the required emergency service.

The team had a clear aim to ensure in a critical accident, drivers connect with essential services as seamlessly as possible, because in an emergency timely intervention can help prevent serious injury and death." says RACV Head of Service and Product Design Luke Allen.
Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA) uses Intelematics’ ASURE platform as a component of their Connected Safety & Security services.
