BYD Sealion 8 adopts advanced eCall technology

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – 11 June 2026: Leading new energy vehicle manufacturer BYD has partnered with connected vehicle technology provider Intelematics to deliver advanced eCall capability for Australian drivers.

The partnership sees Intelematics’ connected car platform — which powers eCall including Automatic Collision Notification (ACN) and SOS button capabilities¹ – integrated into the recently launched BYD Sealion 8. The technology will be progressively rolled out across future BYD models.

Intelematics’ platform combines intelligent in vehicle technology with around the clock human support to enhance driver and passenger safety in the event of a crash. By automatically transmitting critical crash data, the system helps ensure assistance can be dispatched faster, with a clearer understanding of crash severity for first responders.

The partnership will maximise the possibility for new BYD models to meet ANCAP 2026 ‘post-crash’ safety requirements, which encourage vehicles seeking a five star safety rating to have an eCall system.

Going beyond ANCAP’s minimum eCall standard, which requires transmission of the vehicle’s GPS location and voice-to-vehicle assistance — BYD’s eCall system will deliver enhanced car crash data, including:

  • Airbag deployment and airbag location
  • Number of occupants in the vehicle
  • Vehicle impact zones
  • Vehicle speed and direction of travel.

It’s local capability working alongside global vehicle innovation to improve safety outcomes and confidence for BYD drivers across Australia.”
