SUNA to come standard on the new Alpine in-vehicle navigation range

Intelematics Australia today announced that real-time traffic updates will be available as standard on the new range of Alpine in-vehicle navigation systems in Australia, scheduled to launch this month.

Under the exclusive supply arrangement, SUNA Traffic Channel will supply Alpine in-vehicle navigation devices with up-to-the-minute information on a range of traffic incidents including accidents, road closures, traffic congestion, major road works and special events.

Commenting on the new partnership, Darren Gray, Marketing Manager, Alpine Electronics, said, “Alpine is committed to providing its customers with technology that helps them stay ahead while out on the road and our partnership with Intelematics Australia enables us to deliver on this commitment. Traffic jams cause major headaches for all Australian motorists however thanks to SUNA, motorists with an Alpine in-vehicle navigation device will now have the help they need to beat the traffic blues and avoid unnecessary delays while driving.”

Adam Game, Chief Executive Officer, Intelematics Australia, said, “We are proud to align ourselves with Alpine and help them deliver a premium navigation experience for their customers.”

SUNA is currently available in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth. SUNA’s unique infrastructure provides an unmatched depth of coverage in major metropolitan areas.  SUNA’s proprietary systems monitor traffic conditions using the tens of thousands of traffic sensors driving modern traffic lights, supplemented with other sources including probe vehicles, freeway sensors, tow truck allocations, roadwork information, special events and expert camera observers.

The new range of Alpine fitted in-vehicle navigation devices will be available from Alpine Specialist Dealers in July 2010.  There are no ongoing data charges for SUNA Traffic Channel and the service is available for the lifetime of the device.
